Laird Hamilton Announced as Ambassador for CHANEL J12 Marine Watch
CHANEL is pleased to announce Laird Hamilton as the ambassador for the newest watch of the iconic CHANEL J12 lineage, the J12 Marine, the first diving watch for the House of CHANEL.
Laird Hamilton is hailed as one of the most revolutionary big-wave surfers, a co-inventor of tow-in surfing and generous philanthropist. He is a true waterman, passionate for the ocean, and his life has been dedicated to developing new techniques and pushing the boundaries of big wave surfing. Laird is most passionate, however, about environmental causes, focusing his efforts to protecting the oceans and influencing others to follow in his path. John Galantic, President and Chief Operating Officer of CHANEL, Inc. states, "Laird's daring spirit and love for the ocean are in perfect harmony with the inspiration behind the J12 Marine watch. We are excited for him to bring his energy, original style and fearlessness to this iconic watch."
The J12 Marine Watch is the newest innovation in the CHANEL J12 family. It is designed for going deep into the sea and possesses the attributes of a professional diving watch: waterproof to over 300 meters, perfect readability in darkness, a matte rubber strap to allow water to flow through easily, and a toothed, unidirectional revolving bezel fitted with a sapphire disc and self-winding mechanical swiss movement. Inspired by the force of the oceans and maritime symbols, the J12 Marine is at once practical, accurate, harshly simple, maintaining the DNA of the original iconic J12, while pushing its boundaries to adapt perfectly to the elements underwater.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to be an ambassador for Chanel's J12 Marine Watch and to work with a brand of such quality and heritage,” states Laird Hamilton. This watch is authentic. I have put it through 'the test' and it has survived me. As a result, I look forward to representing the J12 Marine and this exciting new partnership.”
In honor of this partnership, CHANEL is pleased to support the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit, environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches, for all people, through conservation, activism, research and education.
